Afar • Milwaukee, WI

This organization was founded in 2008 to provide children and adults with disabilities the chance to participate in recreation and competitive sports. Their goal is to enable family and friends of all abilities the opportunity to play together, and that no child or parent should be left on the sidelines. Annually, they’ve reached out to more than 7500 individuals through its three core program areas: Adaptive Scholastic Athletic Program, Open Gym, and RampUp.

Artworks for Milwaukee • Milwaukee, WI

The Artworks for Milwaukee is a youth readiness organization that has been assisting Milwaukee high school students through paid internships since 2001. Two examples of their internships are graphic design and environmental arts. In both, interns will develop transferable job skills such as confidence and leadership while working on community- based art and design projects. This provides the interns with the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of their communities through creative expression.

Casa Romero Renewal Center • Milwaukee, WI

In honor of the values of Archbishop Oscar Romero, this center’s programming centers on Milwaukee’s disadvantaged groups. Their mission is achieved through four program and service areas: youth development, family enrichment, spiritual formation, and social justice awareness. Additionally, their IGNITE program offers week-long summer camps which prepare participants to break through oppressive cycles.

Gathering of S.E. Wisconsin • Milwaukee, WI

Since opening its doors in 1982, the Gathering of S.E. Wisconsin has been providing free lunch and dinner meals 51 weeks a year. This includes serving breakfast five days a week. In addition to cooking and serving meals, the Gathering seeks to respond to other needs of the community including medical, mental health, housing, and street supply distributions. The Gathering also collects donations of fresh fruit and vegetables, from area farmers.

Hunger Task Force • Milwaukee, WI

Founded in 1974, the Hunger Task Force was started by a group of local parents and dietician advocates that saw a need to establish a Milwaukee Public Schools breakfast program. Through the years, the Task Force has established itself as Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. Recently, they have instituted the Wisconsin Dairy Recovery Program which purchases and distributes milk and cheese to struggling families: simultaneously, helping local dairy co-ops avoid bankruptcy.

Meta House • Milwaukee, WI

Establishing themselves as a trauma informed and genderspecific treatment facility for women in 1982, Meta Housefollows a holistic approach to patient care. After identifyingand addressing all the obstacles that their clients face aswomen and mothers, Meta House became recognized asone of the first residential treatment centers that welcomechildren into the healing process. Their services include parenting education, infant health, and family support.
