Community Advocacy envisions a community where all individuals and families can meet their basic needs and have the opportunity to move forward on their own. We emphasize the importance of advocacy in building a community that empowers individuals to help themselves.
Mission Statement
To provide individuals and families with advocacy and services to meet their basic needs so they may live in dignity while maintaining cultural traditions and values.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of our program is to provide the Forest County Potawatomi community with a comprehensive network of support and resources for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, facilitating their safety and healing while actively working to prevent future abuse through community education and advocacy.
The Community Advocacy Program offers advocacy & support in the following areas:
THE DOOR IS OPEN – DV/SEXUAL ASSAULT
- DV/SA – 24/7 Help Line: (715) 478-7201
- Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault – follow-ups and assistance
- Emotional support – whether past or current abuse
- Assist in filing restraining orders, victim assistance, crime victim compensation, etc.
- Provide support in both tribal court and county court systems
- Safety Planning
- Emergency assistance – for domestic violence victims, elder abuse victims and/or family medical emergencies
- Awareness events
- MMIP Support
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
- APS/CPS referrals
- Assistance with Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid
- Assistance with Advance Directives
- Provide resources and assistance to tribal members
- Tribal Member Funeral Assistance
