Në Mnobmadzëwen Myéwés (Pathway to Wellness Mural Project)

Forest County Potawatomi was one of five recipients of the GM on Main Street Grant!

Powered by General Motors and Main Street America, the program awarded five grants to nonprofit organizations and municipal government entities near GM facilities and the Forest County Potawatomi tribal community within the Main Street network to implement innovative transportation initiatives in their local districts.

Presented by General Motors, the GM on Main Street Grant Program champions place-based solutions that prioritize pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, inclusive urban design, and sustainable mobility.

The grant supported the installation of the Në Mnobmadzëwen Myéwés (Pathway to Wellness Mural Project), which aimed to beautify the FCPC’s Pathway to Wellness, a new bicycle and pedestrian trail, constructed in Forest County, Wisconsin.

The title of the community selected mural design is called “Gdenwemagnenanek” (Our Relatives/Family)

Description of the mural:  The artist, Alana Keeble, wanted to express wellness in its simplest form – connection. Regardless of what the past, present, and future holds – one thing remains true – that being connected with creation and with one’s homelands will always ground a people in who they are. The Potawatomi Clan family’s captured in this mural are reflective of the beings who sustain these lands and model the importance of carrying out their own unique responsibilities. The clan systems also facilitated roles and responsibilities that contributed to balance and structure in indigenous communities. Observing these clans within the mural may serve as a gentle reminder to embrace the teachers and teachings of the natural for guidance on cultivating wholesomeness through indigenous ways once again.
