POSITION: ICWA Worker (Trainee position)
LOCATION: Old Executive Building
SUPERVISOR: ICW Director
WAGE: Grade 10
HOURS: 40 hours per week

PURPOSE:
To advocate for and promote Forest County Potawatomi community members participation in the planning, development, and administration of social services which the ICWA is authorized to for the benefit of FCP Indian children and families. To work with the social service programs involved with Forest County Potawatomi children to ensure compliance with ICWA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience preferred in human services, child development or related/or understanding of Indian Child Welfare Act.
- Education preferred in human services, child development or related/or understanding of Indian Child Welfare Act.
- Learn and maintained working relationship with tribal programs, good working relationship with the Forest County Social Services other counties and states and general public.
- Skills appropriate for dealing with any person of another culture, emphasis based on Native American needs and their culture.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of current vehicle insurance is required.
- Must have state, local and Tribal court experience preferred.
- Must be able to travel in and out of state when needed.
- Must be able to produce legal documents and provide client case management.
- Must be able to practice cultural competency: traditional cultural values and costumes directly related to the Indian Child Welfare Act.
- Must be able to complete Indian Child Welfare certification including: cultural competency and ethics and boundaries.
DUTIES:
- Coordinate with Tribal Prosecutor, Indian Child Welfare, Protective Services, Family Services, Gal’s, Social Services, and other state, local, and Tribal agencies.
- Advocate for every child placed out of home to ensure their needs are being met.
- Advocates for services to expedite the return of the children to the custody of the parent when ever safely possible.
- Assists with location of placement alternatives to follow ICWA preferences.
- Participates in case planning conferences in person or by phone.
- Regularly reexamines the decision not to request transfer of jurisdiction.
- Receives all ICWA notices sent to the ICW office.
- Responsible for paperwork to be forwarded to the Tribal Court attorney, requesting motion to intervene to be sent to the notifying district court.
- Collaborates with Forest County Child Protection Services to support ICWA compliance and placement preferences for all Tribal Enrolled Children.
- Coordinates with tribal programs as necessary, such as Mental Health, AODA, Elderly, Youth Prevention, and other programs.
- Assures compliance with mandated reporting and audit requirements.
- Prepare and file court reports with Tribal and State Courts when necessary with approval of supervisor.
- Service as guardianship of persons.
- Makes appropriate referrals for families
- Provide transportation for client’s appointments when needed.
- All other duties assigned by ICW Director.
